The Emergence of Mining Towns and Flourishing Economies
Miners flocked to gold which initiated the development of prosperous cities in California.
Nevada City was one of the many successful mining towns.

-Gold was limited; others sought alternate success

-Entrepreneurs opened business that catered to miners' needs
-New businesses included equipment, clothing, food/agriculture, gambling, prostitution, hotels, etc.
-Exorbitant prices led to inflation
-Towns and cities with flourishing economies were created
-Economic boom was possible because men left their homes, jobs, and families for the chance of easy wealth
-Even soldiers quit to go mine for gold...
